This is an updated version of a press release from July 31.
On the evening of July 31, 2018 at about 5:21 PM, the Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire Department and Frisbie EMS responded to the intersection of Old Dover Rd. and Tebbetts Rd. in regards to a motor vehicle collision with injury. The on-scene investigation revealed that a 15-year-old juvenile student driver was operating a Volkswagen Passat with his grandfather in the passenger seat on Tebbetts Rd. traveling eastbound. The juvenile stopped at the posted stop sign at the intersection and proceeded to enter the intersection to cross Old Dover Rd. He crossed into the path of Albert Cohen, age 84 of Rochester, who was traveling northbound on Old Dover Rd. in his 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. Cohen’s vehicle struck the Passat on the passenger side, causing it to spin in a clockwise manner.
The air bags deployed in both vehicles. Both the juvenile and his grandfather were uninjured in the collision. It was determined that Cohen was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision, which resulted in him being transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Members of the Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene in furtherance of the investigation. The juvenile and his grandfather were completely cooperative during the investigation. The Rochester Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact Ofc. Thomas Powers at 603-330-7128. This case remains under investigation.
