On Wednesday April 3, 2019, around 7:50pm, Rochester Police, Fire and Frisbie EMS responded to Old Dover Rd, in the area of the Rt. 16 off ramp near the Public Works facility, for a reported motor vehicle accident. It was reported a pickup truck had struck a box truck parked in front of a residence and that the pickup truck had also been involved a hit run accident involving two other vehicles just prior that at the intersection of Columbus Ave and Old Dover Rd by TD Bank.
Police arrived on scene and noticed a Toyota Tacoma, driven by Thomas Stevens Jr (no photo available), age 63, of Rochester, and Chevy G30 box truck, both heavily damaged, on the front lawn to a residence, almost up against the house, with debris scattered across the lawn. Stevens was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for non life threatening injuries and his vehicle towed from the scene.
Police also learned the Tacoma driven by Stevens had just struck two other vehicles that were making a left turn onto Old Dover Rd from Columbus Ave at the intersection by TD Bank. The Tacoma struck a Dodge Caliber, driven by Joshua Holden, 18, of Alton, from behind, pushing the Dodge into the rear of the Hyundai Elantra, driven by Richard Hyde, 55, of Pittsfield, in front it, resulting in minor damage to both vehicles. Neither Holden nor Hyde were injured as a result of the accident and their vehicles were driven from the scene.
As a result of the investigation, Police arrested Thomas Stevens Jr for Driving Under the Influence and two counts of Conduct After an Accident, all Misdemeanor level offenses. Stevens was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Monday April 22, 2019 at 8:00 am at the 7th Circuit District Division Rochester Court.
