On 06.10.2019, Rochester Police, Fire, and Frisbie EMS responded to Summer Street at the railroad crossing for the report of a collision involving a train and a vehicle.
Through the investigation, officers found that Basel Alkurabi, 60, of Rochester, NH was stopped at the railroad crossing in a 2013 Mercedes S-Class. The vehicle had been stopped past the white stop line. The train approached the crossing and made contact front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle sustained minor damage.
Basel was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Mercedes was towed from the scene.
Basel was summonsed for Stopping/Standing/Parking Prohibited RSA 265:69.
The Rochester Police Department would like to use this incident as a reminder and warning for drivers, stop lines on the roadways are designed to provide a safe standoff distance to prevent collisions with trains and turning vehicles.
