On Wednesday July 24, 2019, around 2:30 pm, Rochester Police responded to May St for the report of a male lying on the ground with another male standing over him holding a gun. It was then reported that someone there had been trying to break into the residence and that person was the one who was on the ground.
Police arrived on scene and observed a male sitting up on the ground with another male standing next to him. It was learned the resident had just returned home and witnessed someone on his porch trying to break in. The resident, who was armed at the time, confronted the male and the male then tried fleeing, however the resident then pulled out his handgun and ordered the other male to the ground. Assisted by a neighbor, the male was then detained until Police arrived. No injuries were reported.
As a result of the incident, Police arrested Nicholas Closson, 37, listed as transient, for Possession of Burglary Tools (Misdemeanor), Loitering/Prowling (Violation) and Attempted Theft by Unauthorized Taking (Misdemeanor). Closson was bailed and released on personal recognizance and scheduled to be arraigned on Monday September 19, 2019 in 7th Circuit District Division Rochester Court at 8:15 am.
