On Wednesday August 7, 2019, around 4:35 pm, Rochester Police, Fire and Frisbie EMS responded to the area of 180 Farmington Rd, near Lilac City Pediatrics, for the report of a single car motor vehicle accident. It was reported a vehicle struck a utility pole and then went into the woods.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene and noticed the broken utility pole broken at the base and leaning over. There was also a vehicle several yards away in the woods with one male occupant out of the vehicle being helped by a passerby.
Initial investigation indicates the vehicle, a black 2018 Kia Sorrento, was traveling north and then crossed over the double yellow line, striking the utility pole and then driving into the wooded area off the road. The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and the driver was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver, Bruce Phillips, age 28, of Durham, NH, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Phillips was released on personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned in 7th Circuit Rochester Court on Monday August 26, 2019 at 8:15 am.
As a result of the accident, several residences and businesses in the area lost power and Eversource responded out quickly to address the issues and replace the broken pole.
