Police Caution Residents to Not Leave Firearms in Unlocked Vehicles

Since January 1, 2019, Rochester Police have taken over 185 reports of Thefts from Motor Vehicles, most of which are thefts from unlocked motor vehicles.  Close to a dozen of these thefts from motor vehicles involved the theft of an unsecured firearm(s) in an unlocked motor vehicle, with five being stolen from motor vehicles since August 1, 2019.   Police are asking residents to be more careful with their firearms and to never leave them unsecured/unattended in areas where they can easily be stolen in an effort to keep them from getting in the wrong hands. Please do not leave firearms or any valuables in motor vehicles and lock your doors.
