On Friday October 18, 2019, Rochester Police were alerted to a Snapchat message being distributed via social media that involved a reported school shooting that was going to happen Friday October 25, 2019. The message had been sent to and then forwarded by several Rochester students. Rochester Police immediately investigated the incident and quickly determined the message originated in Apex North Carolina and was being investigated there. The message was discovered on a bathroom wall at Apex Friendship High School in Wake County NC. Police in NC are investigating the threat, which they believe is a hoax, and there is no belief that the information poses a danger to schools in Rochester, NH. It appears a picture of the message from the wall of that school was distributed via Snapchat and social media to students in Rochester, however Police do not find the threat credible.
Rochester Police take all school threats seriously and will increase security as a precaution on Friday the 25th, but wanted to advise students, parents, and faculty they do not find the threat credible.
